Saints Row 2 DLC delayed a week

We have good, bad and ugly news today. First: the bad news, and any Stilwater 2.0 regulars should pay close attention because their plans for a return trip may have to wait. According to the game’s official blog, the first DLC package for Saints Row 2 has been pushed back a week to April 23.

The good news is that gamers will also receive new character clothing with the DLC, which is already set to include new missions, pornstar assistance and the four maps shown in the gallery below. Oh, and the ugly news? Giant bunnies have been spotted near town and are poised for an attack. You should probably run for your lives.

Joystiq impressions: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

click to maximize

Okay, so maybe we were a little harsh on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the game) when it was announced back in February, but can you really blame us? First off, it’s a movie tie-in. Secondly, Activision’s video game treatment of the first Michael Bay Tranformers flick was awful. Having now seen what the crew at Luxoflux is putting together for PS3 and 360, we have to admit it actually looks … kinda good.

The good news is, apart from giant transforming robots, the game has little in common with its predecessor. If anything, it’s akin to a fast-paced mech arcade title, with a non-linear level structure and lots of bonuses for pulling off flashy moves. For the land-based Transformers, its creator is playing off the momentum they can build up in vehicle mode and translating it into more devastating attacks or longer jumps when they (very quickly) transform into robots.

Bionic Commando multiplayer demo swings onto Xbox Live this month

Ready to try your luck at bionic swinging in 3D? You’ll be able to get an early hands-on with Bionic Commando in a multiplayer-only demo on Xbox Live later this month. The demo will offer 8-player deathmatch on “Vertigo,” one of the game’s 16 multiplayer maps. The full game will also feature team deathmatch and capture the flag modes.

There’s no word on a PS3 demo — perhaps Sony’s bandwidth policies have taken their toll? For now, only Xbox 360 owners will be able to get an early taste of struggling with the game’s controls.

Burnout Paradise teases ‘Cops and Robbers’

We’re not exactly sure what they stole, but judging by the teaser trailer for Burnout Paradise’s looming Cops and Robbers mode, criminals will have their jobs cut out for them outrunning the Paradise City fuzz.

As a latest move to “change the way people think about and experience” the chaotic racer, much of Cops and Robbers’ details remain behind bars, including the premium DLC’s as-yet-unannounced release date. Still, if nothing else, this early look shows that Paradise City’s police force is more than equipped to keep pace with lead foots on the wrong side of the law.

A girl with guns and a sword, new trailer for Wet

We’re trying hard to temper any excitement for Wet with the cold reality that, despite looking like a lot of fun to play, the upcoming action fest is still sans a publisher to call its own. Even so, that hasn’t stopped developer A2M from releasing gameplay showing off the game’s high-flying antics, which look to mix together elements of Tomb Raider and Max Payne with a dash of Kill Bill.

No release date has been set, though the Montreal dev teases that Wet is “coming soon.” It’s good to see that even after being dumped by Activision Blizzard, going solo hasn’t dampened the studio’s spirits.

Halo? Simpsons? Rube Goldberg? Sold!

We always knew that there would be some very interesting maps generated with the new Halo 3 map Sandbox, but this … this is special. This map takes three of our favorite things — Halo, The Simpsons and Rube Goldberg machines — and swirls them all together into a delicious, digital smoothie. We could waste more of your time and ours by describing it, but you’d really be better served by just watching the video after the break. Enjoy.

Microsoft talks to GLAAD about GLBT policy issues

Stephen Toulouse, handler of Xbox Live Terms of Service policing, appeared on last Sunday’s Major Nelson podcast to speak about how Microsoft is handling the concerns of the GLBT community. He recently sat down with two representatives from GLAAD to speak about the policy and what Microsoft could be doing better. Speaking about the meeting, Toulouse said, “We asked them the question, ‘How can we do this better?’ … That dialog was super, super helpful. I think it was a great engagement.”

Problems arose in late February when an Xbox Live user named “Teresa” identified her sexual preference in her profile and was subsequently suspended from the service, seemingly due to self-identifying as a lesbian. Microsoft told us at the time that it suspends accounts that identify “any form of sexual orientation” and it seems as though Mr. Toulouse and GLAAD are working toward a more hospitable situation for everyone involved (be they from the GLBT community or not).

We reached out to GLAAD for comment on the meeting and spoke with Justin Cole, the Director of Digital & Online Media, who told us, “They [Microsoft] were very, very receptive and welcoming with all the suggestions. They even admitted that their policy isn’t the best in the world. What we, at the end of the meeting, decided is that we’re going to have quarterly meetings with them. They’re going to be heading out to a panel on homophobia and online gaming in Silicon Valley that we’re putting together later this year.” We’ll be speaking with Mr. Cole in the upcoming days and finding out more about the future of GLAAD’s involvement with Xbox Live and, in general, online gaming.
